Likely, no one told you THIS

The journey into motherhood starts the minute you get pregnant or even start trying to get pregnant. There are people that love being pregnant while others don’t love it as much. For some it is easy and for others it is a struggle everyday. Those struggles can impact your delivery and postpartum journey. So many pregnancy experiences, symptoms and discomforts are brushed off as normal when in reality they are impacting you physical, mentally and emotionally.

    Experiencing BOWEL and BLADDER Leaking

Navigating leaking during pregnancy can be frustrating and overwhelming really when no one else is talking about it. As your baby grows it increases the pressure on your bladder and bowels making leaking more likely. This is something that you want to address during your pregnancy to have improved postpartum recovery. We are here to give you individualized care for your specific situation so you can have the best results in resolving your symptoms.

Feeling DISCONNECTED to Your BODY and wanting Remain ACTIVE

You slowly feel your body being taken away from its normal and you are struggling with what you can do. We work with you to build a strong foundation so that you can do any activity that you desire through pregnancy as well as feel strong for the marathon of delivery.

    Having Difficulty Resuming INTIMACY

You are not alone and getting clearance at 6 weeks doesn’t mean that everything is hot and ready to go. Experiencing pain, lack of desire and fear are all things that we can help you navigate. In the Resources tab you will find a Postpartum Sex guide that talks more directly about this topic.

Struggling with becoming PREGNANT and dealing with INFERTILITY

Infertility can cause a lot of stress, trauma and disassociation in your own body. Making sure your pelvic floor is in its optimal function can help with your fertility.

Experiencing TIGHTNESS and PAIN in your Low back, Hips, Abdomen, Pelvic Floor, or Neck

There is some discomfort that comes along with pregnancy but we should not be living in pain. Pain is our body’s alarm system telling us to notice something and if we don’t respect what our body is saying it usually gets louder. We will help you release the pain with physical, mental and emotional techniques.

Desiring to have a SMOOTH DELIVERY and be PREPARED Physically, Emotionally and Mentally.

Most providers only refer to pelvic floor therapy if you are experiencing an issue. We believe that prevention and knowledge before delivery will impacts ones birthing experience and overall outcomes. Advocate for the care you deserve.

    2. Consistent, Personalized Care: Every session you will see the same therapist. Consistency means that we can really get to know you and journey with you through your healing.

    3. Time and Listening: We want to hear your stories. We allow 60-90 minutes for all sessions to not feel rushed and give you our full attention

    4. Safe Environment: Our clients have identified our clinic as a place that they feel safe and comfortable. Our number one goal is for you to feel that same comfort and we would welcome suggestions to ensure that is the case for you during your care with us.

    5. Individualized: Your treatments are based on your priority that day. We don’t have protocols for treatments and we are not bound by the regulations of insurance so that you can always be at the center of your care. If you are a new mom and feel more comfortable by bringing your baby to the session please know that babies are always welcome.

    6. This is a Partnership: We help you facilitate change and learn strategies to gain independence. We want to empower you to have the knowledge to improve your pelvic health and maintain optimal pelvic health for years to come. Our goal is that you will not need us.

    7. Driver of Your Care: We strive to makes sure that you always feel in control and agreeable in your care. Pelvic floor assessments have a variety of options to accomplish the same goal, healing can occur without the therapist touching you. Together we will figure our the best plan for you.

    8. Prevention: preventative care is quality care. You don’t have to wait until something is wrong to be supported. Motherhood is a huge transition that needs more support. Don’t settle for want is common (leaking, pain with sex, etc), be proactive to be the strong and healthy person you desire to be and help change the narrative of women’s health in this country.

    9. Rebuilding Trust in Your Body: The pelvis holds onto memory, but has no sense of time therefore to do this work we have to recognize the trauma, listen to the body and respect what our body needs.

    10. Addressing the Whole Person: We follow a biopsychosocial approach which expands the lens of pelvic floor therapy to provide the most holistic care possible. There are 4 pillars of care that we strive for: Biomechanics which includes your strength, coordination, and ROM of your pelvic floor, and what most pelvic floor therapists primarily work on. Nervous System Regulation which involves learning to listen to your body, breath work and vagus nerve stimulation. Psychology including trauma informed conversations, learning new coping mechanisms, adapting to new roles and routines and finding confidence in your body. Lastly, Social and Emotional Support which includes addressing the struggles of balancing life, developing ways to engage in your community and preparing for transitions such as motherhood or menopause.

At The Perinatal Pelvis we believe in THRIVING, not just SURVIVING Pregnancy, Postpartum, Menopause and Everything in Between.

    Here is how we HELP:

    Feel Strong through Your Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a great reason for dysfunction to happen because of the rapid posture changes, weight gain, and postural distribution changes combined with increased ligament laxity. It is sometimes difficult to know what is allowed and how to modify activity appropriately to stay strong all the way until delivery. We can help you navigate this and create a plan that is personal to your preferences and body.

    Experience a Empowered Birth

You have a birth plan and are just hoping that it goes to that plan. We work on preparing your body physically, making sure your pelvic floor is at optimal function for delivery, address the mental and emotional changes that come with this transition into motherhood and prepare for your early postpartum journey.

    Eliminate Leaking Naturally

Your pelvic floor is like all other muscles in your body. It needs strength, coordination, endurance, and range of motion. People are told about the strength part (kegels) without learning about the other 3 elements which are the key to eliminating leaking. We bring all of these elements together and integrate them into your daily life.

    Manage Pain Holistically

Pain is our body’s alarm system, it tells us when we have a problem. The issue comes when that pain response doesn’t leave and we are left in this chronic pain response which leaves our nervous system shot. We work together to find the cause of the pain, explore what your body is telling you about the pain and find the ways that your body wants to heal through nervous system regulation.

    Meet Kyrsten Spurrier

Pelvic Floor Therapist Serving Hillsborough, NC

Kyrsten Spurrier pelvic floor therapist in Hillsborough, NC

I know what it feels like when you feel like your body has failed you, I have been there!

I did what I was told by my doctors and thought I was prepared for delivery and postpartum but when it turned out that I needed 2 surgeries after delivery I was left with nothing but pain, leaking and feeling like I would never run again.

I felt overwhelmed, frustrated and alone. I had to do 1.5 years of pelvic floor therapy and realized that my pelvic floor dysfunction was being addressed as if I hurt my knee or sprained my ankle, it was just another place in my body that I was trying to get stronger. BUT, I felt like something was missing, it was so much more than getting stronger! My pelvic floor dysfunction was not just physical, it was effecting my relationship with my husband, my ability to be a mom, I was suffering from postpartum anxiety and had difficulty returning to work. Yet, no one was addressing those things.

From my experience I felt like moms and people with pelvic floor dysfunction deserve better. So I made it my life mission to become a pelvic floor therapist who could provide the kind of guidance, support and holistic care that I felt was missing.

And so The Perinatal Pelvis was born and strives to treat everyone for the person that they are, not just the dysfunction that they are experiencing. If we respect the body, what it has been through and what it is currently experiencing, true healing can be achieved.

I have a passion to help pregnant individuals prepare for delivery because I think there is so much dysfunction and heartbreak that could be avoided if we would give more education and support to this population.

I hope that I can journey with you. I invite you to book a free consultation below
