Likely, no one told you THIS
The journey into motherhood is wonderful, scary, life-altering and all encompassing. Our bodies, go through 9 months of preparation to do this marathon of delivery and then have to recover while keeping another human alive. No one prepares you for the changes that happen to your body and mind, the discomforts that you may feel, or the minimal support you are given after.
You maybe found yourself experiencing…
Experiencing BOWEL and BLADDER Leaking
Navigating leaking during pregnancy, postpartum or menopause can be frustrating and overwhelming really when everyone around you is saying it is normal after having babies. It may be common but it is not normal and we are here to give you individualized care for your specific situation so you can have the best results in resolving your symptoms.
Feeling DISCONNECTED to Your BODY and Nervous about Returning to ACTIVITY
You want to feel like yourself but you have no idea where to even start. We work with you to build a strong foundation so that you can do any activity that you desire, but more importantly you feel secure in your body again.
Having Difficulty with INTIMACY
Experiencing pain, lack of desire and fear are all things that we can help you navigate no matter if you have had children or not. If you are newly postpartum, getting clearance at 6 weeks doesn’t mean that everything is hot and ready to go.
Struggling with being a NEW MOM and getting OVERWHELMED
Taking care of yourself, working and being a mom is like having 3 jobs, it is not easy. The struggle is real but if life is impacting your joy to show up like you want to or care for yourself that is where we could help you with strategies to regain control over your daily life.
Experiencing TIGHTNESS and PAIN in your Low back, Hips, Abdomen, Pelvic Floor, or Neck
Pain is our body’s alarm system telling us to notice something and if we don’t respect what our body is saying it usually gets louder. People struggling with chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis or painful periods can experience improvement with symptoms when seeing consistent pelvic floor therapy. We will help you release the pain with physical, mental and emotional techniques.
Continuing to have ISSUES Years After Kids and into PERIMENOPAUSE
Unfortunately, sometimes we don’t get the help we need when leaking, pain, discomfort first begin, we get busy and before long it has been 10 years of doing nothing. Not all hope is lost, you can still do something about it! The time is now! We want to help you navigate the journey of an aging woman’s body and equip you in ways that no one else can.
Struggling with TRAUMA being held in your body
Our pelvis bowl is a storage house of all of our unprocessed emotion, trauma, events and things that have happened to us, it can show up in different ways in our bodies. Maybe you didn’t have the birth that you expected, it takes some work to process and heal from that experience. We can help you navigate and process your trauma so you can experience more healing.
Experiencing difficulty with managing PRESSURE
Pelvic organ prolapse and diastatsis recti abdominis are common diagnosis for postpartum and menopausal women because they have difficult managing their internal abdominal pressure due to weakness. Pelvic floor therapy can help you learn appropriate breathing mechanics to help with your symptoms.
Recovering from TEARING or C-SECTION
Having a grade 3-4 tear or a Caesarean section means that you have scarring that needs help to remodel and make sure it is not developing adhesion which will impact your mobility later on. Healing from these procedures takes time and proper steps to help it recover fully.
At The Perinatal Pelvis we believe in THRIVING, not just SURVIVING Pelvic Pain, Postpartum, Perimenopause and Everything in Between.
Here is how we HELP:
Feel like Yourself Again
Having pelvic floor dysfunction can be embarrassing, frustrating and isolating. If you just had a baby you feel like your body is not your own. We help you feel strong, confident and functional in your body and get you back to the activities that are meaningful to you. We really focus on what works for your lifestyle and your goals.
Heal from Birth Trauma
You didn't have the birth that you planned or desired. Maybe your birth experience resulted in an extensive hospital stay, prolonged physical recovery or feeling bitter about how your birth was handled. You might not feel like anyone cares about what you have gone through and it has left you feeling really alone. As a trauma-informed practice we will work on the trauma being held in your body so you can experience full healing and feel more supported in your birth story.
Eliminate Leaking Naturally
Your pelvic floor is like all other muscles in your body. It needs strength, coordination, endurance, and range of motion. People are told about the strength part (kegels) without learning about the other 3 elements which are the key to eliminating leaking. We bring all of these elements together and integrate them into your daily life.
Manage Pain Holistically
Pain is our body’s alarm system, it tells us when we have a problem. The issue comes when that pain response doesn’t leave and we are left in this chronic pain response which leaves our nervous system shot. We work together to find the cause of the pain, explore what your body is telling you about the pain and find the ways that your body wants to heal through nervous system regulation.

Discover The Perinatal Pelvis Difference:
Where Expert Care Meets Personal Touch
Our clinic is not just about the treatment, it is about creating a personalized healing experience and journeying alongside each patient whether that be transitioning into motherhood, navigating infertility, managing pelvic pain or being successful at potty training. We understand that choosing a pelvic floor specialist is a significant decision in which your comfort is the most important to achieving your goals. Below you will find the reasons why The Perinatal Pelvis stands out as a premier choice for those who are seeking specialized holistic and compassionate pelvic health care.
Focused Expertise in Pelvic Health: We haven’t just stopped at generalized pelvic health education. Our advanced training in pediatrics, pregnancy and postpartum allows you or your child to get individualized, effective and comprehensive care tailored to your needs.
Consistent, Personalized Care: Every session you will see the same therapist. Consistency means that we can really get to know you and journey with you through your healing.
Time and Listening: We want to hear your stories. We allow 60-90 minutes for all sessions to not feel rushed and give you our full attention
Safe Environment: Our clients have identified our clinic as a place that they feel safe and comfortable. Our number one goal is for you to feel that same comfort and we would welcome suggestions to ensure that is the case for you during your care with us.
Individualized: Your treatments are based on your priority that day. We don’t have protocols for treatments and we are not bound by the regulations of insurance so that you can always be at the center of your care. If you are a new mom and feel more comfortable by bringing your baby to the session please know that babies are always welcome.
This is a Partnership: We help you facilitate change and learn strategies to gain independence. We want to empower you to have the knowledge to improve your pelvic health and maintain optimal pelvic health for years to come. Our goal is that you will not need us. If you are a caregiver and bringing your child to therapy we want look at you as a vessel in helping the strategies that your child learns in therapy to be carried out at home.
Driver of Care: We strive to ensure that you always feel in control and agreeable in your care, no matter your age . Pelvic floor assessments have a variety of options to accomplish the same goal, healing can occur without the therapist touching you. Together we will figure out the best plan for you.
Prevention: preventative care is quality care. You don’t have to wait until something is wrong to be supported. Don’t settle for what is common (leaking, pain with sex, constipation, bed wetting, etc). Dysfunction can be minimized by being preventative.
Rebuilding Trust in the Body: The pelvis holds onto memory, but has no sense of time therefore to do this work we have to recognize the trauma, listen to the body and respect what the body needs.
Addressing the Whole Person: We follow a biopsychosocial approach which expands the lens of pelvic floor therapy to provide the most holistic care possible. There are 4 pillars of care that we strive for: Biomechanics which includes your strength, coordination, and ROM of your pelvic floor, and what most pelvic floor therapists primarily work on. Nervous System Regulation which involves learning to listen to your body, breath work and vagus nerve stimulation. Psychology including trauma informed conversations, learning new coping mechanisms, adapting to new roles and routines and finding confidence in your body. Lastly, Social and Emotional Support which includes addressing the struggles of balancing life, developing ways to engage in your community and preparing for transitions such as motherhood, menopause or participating in school.
Meet Kyrsten Spurrier
Pelvic Floor Therapist Serving Hillsborough, NC
I know what it feels like when you feel like your body has failed you, I have been there!
I did what I was told by my doctors and thought I was prepared for delivery and postpartum but when it turned out that I needed 2 surgeries after delivery I was left with nothing but pain, leaking and feeling like I would never run again.
I felt overwhelmed, frustrated and alone. I had to do 1.5 years of pelvic floor therapy and realized that my pelvic floor dysfunction was being addressed as if I hurt my knee or sprained my ankle, it was just another place in my body that I was trying to get stronger. BUT, I felt like something was missing, it was so much more than getting stronger! My pelvic floor dysfunction was not just physical, it was effecting my relationship with my husband, my ability to be a mom, I was suffering from postpartum anxiety and had difficulty returning to work. Yet, no one was addressing those things.
From my experience I felt like moms and people with pelvic floor dysfunction deserve better. So I made it my life mission to become a pelvic floor therapist who could provide the kind of guidance, support and holistic care that I felt was missing.
And so The Perinatal Pelvis was born and strives to treat everyone for the person that they are, not just the dysfunction that they are experiencing. If we respect the body, what it has been through and what it is currently experiencing, true healing can be achieved.
I hope that I can journey with you. I invite you to book a free consultation below
