Through these appointments, Kyrsten Spurrier, OTR/L will partner with you to support your pelvic floor, develop self-management strategies, and improve your overall quality of life. As an occupational therapist, Kyrsten is trained in a biopsychosocial approach to address pelvic floor dysfunction. This means she strives to support you in being as functional as possible in all aspects of your everyday life.

You may be wondering ….

What is a Pelvic Health Wellness appointment?

A Pelvic Health Wellness appointment at The Perinatal Pelvis is a service offered for clients over the age of 65 to learn more about their pelvic floor as well as develop conservative strategies to enhance their overall pelvic health. A Pelvic Health Wellness appointment provides you with the opportunity to get direction in functional movements and exercises from a pelvic floor occupational therapist that are beneficial when dealing with pelvic floor dysfunction.

Common Needs and Solutions Discussed:

  • Strategies to reduce leaking and pelvic pain.

  • How to manage inter-abdominal pressure

  • Controlling risk factors for low back pain or prolapse

  • Dietary considerations that affect pelvic health

  • Considerations with surgery, menopause, cancer treatments

It is important to note that Pelvic Health Wellness appointments are NOT REPLACEMENTS for formal assessments and treatment with a pelvic floor therapist. Medicare or supplemental healthcare insurance WILL NOT cover Pelvic Health Wellness appointments.

“Why??” you may ask. Stick with me as I explain healthcare insurance rules and regulations.

Per current Medicare regulation and the Mandatory Claims Submission law, occupational therapists cannot opt out of Medicare AND they must submit claims to Medicare for covered services. Pelvic floor therapy with a pelvic floor therapist is considered a covered service. However, a Pelvic Health Wellness appointment is considered a “wellness visit” under Medicare regulations. This means the cost of service can be paid out of pocket or is cash-based, which is important as The Perinatal Pelvis is a private-pay clinic.

Further, paying out of pocket for a wellness appointment means there is one less hoop to jump through so you can receive support, gain knowledge, and develop strategies to improve your pelvic floor health.

COST OF A PELVIC HEALTH WELLNESS APPOINTMENT

  • $125 for a 60-minute appointment

  • Payment is due at the time of service
